2009
Carden Academy was accredited by WASC in 2006. This accreditation was valid for 3 years.
In February, 2009 we were due for our next evaluation. We welcomed the WASC Visiting Team for a 3 day evaluation of our school.
As a result of the following our WASC parent meetings, our parents’ positive comments and support, our staff interviews, the classroom observations, and our students’ excellent academic, social and physical performance, we are proud to announce that we have received a 6 Year Term Accreditation by WASC!
We will continue our Parent Meetings next year and encourage parents to participate and to share their ideas and concerns.
We will continue to address our ESLR’s (Expected School Learning Results) and to uphold the reputation of being a WASC Institute of Learning.

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges is one of six regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges and universities in the United States. Eight hundred and six schools out of 3,277 were accredited this year and Carden Academy was among them.
- Accreditation brings to Carden the certification to the public that our school is a trustworthy institution of learning.
- Accreditation validates the integrity of the school’s program and student’s transcripts.
- Accreditation assures a school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable educational program.
- Accreditation is a way to manage change through regular assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring and reassessment.
With respect to accreditation the University of California passed a policy that requires all schools that want UC approval of courses to meet the A-G requirements to be accredited by WASC or at least be an initial WASC candidate. Colleges and universities examine transcripts to determine if the students have attended accredited institutions.
Ultimately, the accreditation process is all about fostering excellence in the elementary, secondary, adult, postsecondary and supplementary education programs. The accreditation process is a vehicle that enables schools to improve student learning and school performance based on an analysis of those strengths and limitations. Participating schools must meet rigorous, research-based standards that reflect the essential elements of a quality and effective school, but again, must also be able to demonstrate engagement in as well as capacity to provide continuous school improvement.
We are thrilled with the recognition that this accreditation brings us. We will continue our commitment to provide the very best quality education.
Sincerely,
Carol J. Van Asten
